Priest shot at, accused on the run

VARANASI: An elderly priest of a temple was allegedly shot at by two youths at Jigirsar village in Kherjuri area of Ballia district on Thursday night. The injured priest was admitted to the hospital. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

According to reports, the two local youths identified as Amit Singh and Anurag Upadhyaya in inebriated state went to the Cheteshwar Nath Temple situated in the village.

After an altercation with the priest Ram Narayan Das over some issue, one of them shot at him and fled from the scene. Hearing the gun shots, local residents reached there and rushed the injured priest to the district hospital from where he was referred to Varanasi.

The police said that on the complaint of priest, an FIR was lodged against them under section 307 of IPC. Both the accused are absconding.
