Delhi boy missing for six years reunited with family

A Delhi boy who had gone missing when he was three years old was reunited with his biological parents on Wednesday after six years of separation, police said.

Two years ago, the boy had been informally adopted by a family from Bihar that lives and works in Punjab’s Kapurthala, said Alok Kumar, joint commissioner of police (crime branch). The boy does not remember the first four years of his disappearance period.

The reunion happened after the boy’s foster father, Sanjay, contacted the anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) of the crime branch earlier this month after his neighbour told him about spotting a ‘hue and cry’ notice bearing the missing boy’s face.

“The 55-year-old woman Minta Devi is a regular visitor to Delhi. She had come across the poster at New Delhi railway station,” said the officer.

Police said Sanjay had taken the boy into his family after spotting him alone in a train in Bihar two years ago. “Though he treated the boy as his own child, all through he made sincere efforts to find the boy’s biological parents,” said the officer.

So, when Sanjay realised that the boy could be the same child seen in the picture, he immediately contacted the police. “We took the boy’s biological father along with us to Kapurthala. He identified his son from his facial features and a scar on his forehead,” said Kumar.
