DOVER Firefighters responded to two fires Thursday and Friday that involved clothes.
The sprinkler system at Hennis Care Center, 1720 N. Cross St., contained a fire in a wheeled clothes basket in the laundry room early Friday, according to Dover Fire Department Capt. Bryan German.
He said firefighters arrived to find smoke in the laundry room and neighboring hall. They used a fire extinguisher to finish putting out the fire in the laundry basket. They used fans to clear the smoke.
Damage was confined to the laundry room, and consisted mainly of water damage, according to the captain.
German said the nursing home staff executed its emergency plan perfectly, including sheltering residents in place.
The facility's fire alarm called firefighters to the scene at 12:30 a.m. Friday.
Firefighters called to a mobile home at 1751 Saltwell Road at 10:02 p.m. Thursday found smoke inside, German said. They used an extinguisher to put out a smoldering fire in a clothes dryer.
A resident of the mobile home was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital, according to German.
Both fires are being investigated, German said.
