Delaware's Mr. Celery has long reigned in the strange-but-beloved mascot category.

But can he compete with a blend of 18 herbs and spices on legs?

Marylanders are coming for us with their Old Bay mascot.

Simply an oversized version of the iconic canister on a pair of red legs and clownishly color-blocked shoes, the mascot made an appearance at Baltimore firehouses on Thursday(with some crabs, naturally) for the first day of summer, which the mayor proclaimed Old Bay Day.

It doesn't seem to be a national holiday, but was used Thursday to kick off a partnership with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay raising money for conservation and restoration efforts of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, according to the Alliance's Mary-Angela Hardwick, speaking to Fox 45.

Hard-core Old Bay fans can bid through July 5 on a table made of 335 Old Bay cans

If you're more interested in meeting the mascot, you're in luck: He (she?) is set for the Old Bay 5K, according to its website. The site promises participants they "will even have the chance to run alongside the Old Bay can and have photo opportunities with other featured mascots -- such as the Orioles Bird and Ravens Poe!"
