Civilian injured in gunfight between security forces, militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag

Mobile Internet services in the district have been suspended to check spread of any kind of rumours

A woman was injured on Friday during a gunfire exchange between the security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Police said she sustained the gunshot injury in the Srigufwara village of the district in south Kashmir where security forces launched a cordon and search operation after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of militants, a police official said.

Authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in the district to check spread of any kind of rumours.

“As the security forces tightened the cordon around hiding militants, they fired, triggering an encounter which is underway,” a police officer said.

The gunfight was going on when last reports came in, the official said, adding further details were awaited.
