Six people, including four policemen, were injured in a five-vehicle pile-up on Mumbai-Pune expressway on Thursday evening.

A speeding truck travelling in the Pune-Mumbai lane rammed into a Maruti Suzuki Eeco car in front of it, and the car turned turtle. An IRB ambulance and a police patrol car reached the spot. “While the police were at the spot, a Swift VDI rammed into the police car, which hit the ambulance, which in turn hit the Eeco. At the same time, a Swift Dzire rammed into the Swift VDI. The accident was due to poor visibility due to heavy rain,” a highway police official said.

Constables Parande, Mahale and Sawant, Assistant Police Inspector Mokal (first names not known), and Mahendra Singh and Lakshman Raj, who were in the Swift VDI, were injured. Mr. Parande and Mr. Mahale have been admitted to Apollo Hospital, and the others were taken to MGM Kamothe Hospital.
