Traffic snarls continue to obstruct vehicle movement at the Hope College junction even after shifting of the shelter for passengers from near the petrol bunk to a location in front of Padmavathi Ammal Cultural Centre. The reason: the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) buses and also private buses are still halting near the petrol bunk.

While some people said that they were unaware of the new location of the bus stop, other choose to wait near the bunk as every bus stopped there.

D. Mani from Tirupur said that they were forced to wait at the old location as not all buses stopped at the new location.

When two or more buses stop at the petrol bunk, the traffic is completely choked leading to queuing up of vehicles even after getting green signal.

G. Saravanan, an employee of Alagu Pharmacy located close to the old location, said that traffic snarls had become a routine affair at the place causing a great deal of trouble especially for ambulances.

Apart from affecting free flow of vehicles even when the green signal is on, accidents are being reported at the spot.

R. Jayakumar, who works at the petrol bunk, said that a girl was recently hit by a two-wheeler while attempting to board a bus that stopped in the middle of the road.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sujit Kumar said that necessary steps would be taken to prevent buses from halting near the petrol bunk.
