The Human Rights Forum (HRF) is organising a meeting in the city on Saturday to deliberate on the recent judgment of the Supreme Court on the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
“The apex court had on March 20 this year, passed a slew of directions that dilutes the very purpose of the SC/ST (POA) Act and are an affront to decades of struggle by Dalits and adivasis seeking to uphold their dignity and we will be discussing this issue’, said K Sudha, HRF State general secretary.
Saturday’s meeting will be held at the Builders Association Hall in Siripuram from 6 pm. Speakers include Dr C Pradgna, professor of English at Gitam University, B Venkat Rao, secretary of the Dalita Hakkula Porata Samiti (DHPS), SV Ramana, convenor of Dalita Vimukthi, Dr K Pallavi, assistant professor at the Ambedkar College of Law, AU, T Chiranjeevi, Visakha city president of the Struggle Committee Against Caste Discrimination (KVPS) and G Sivanageswara Rao, HRF State vice-president.
