Nagpur: A 42-year-old man trying to stop his alcoholic younger brother from beating their mother ended up killing his younger sibling. Raju Amade surrendered to cops two hours after he killed his younger brother with a cricket bat in the wee hours of Friday at Budhwari area. Raju had first thrown chilli powder in the eyes of deceased Sanjay and suffocate him with pillow when latter was beating up their mother.
According to cops, Sanjay, an alcoholic, used to beat his mother and Raju every time he got drunk. On Thursday morning, Sanjay who is unemployed, demanded Rs500 from his mother to buy drinks. She only gave him Rs100. Sanjay threatened his mother of dire consequences and left the house.

At around 10.30pm Sanjay returned home had dinner and went to sleep. He woke up around 1.30am and started beating the mother. Raju, who was watching TV, tried to stop his brother. He threw chilli powder at Sanjay’s eyes and threw him on the bed. He used a pillow to suffocate him. Sanjay survived so Raju took the bat kept in the room and thrashed his younger brother to death.

Raju’s wife tried to stop him but it was too late. After the incident, Raju too had a couple of drinks, changed clothes and went to Tehsil police station and surrendered.

It is learnt Raju always kept chilli powder in his packet to deter Sanjay’s attacks after latter got drunk. Raju and Sanjay both have two sons each. Sanjay’s wife had left him three years back due to his alcoholism. She took her sons also along with her to her parents’ home in Warora. The brothers’ father was a retired police sub inspector who died a few years back.
