AHMEDABAD: Three cops were suspended on Friday for allegedly being negligent while on duty for chief minister’s security. They were posted near Indroda circle in Gandhinagar when CM Vijay Rupani’s convoy was coming from Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The cops were identified as traffic head constables Mahendrasinh Jaswantsinh and Jaimalbhai Mulabhai and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jayantibhai Muljibhai.

Gandhinagar DySP Vijay Patel said that the cops were found resting in their police vehicles while they were deployed for CM security at Indroda circle. “As they saw that CM convoy nearing their point of deployment, they jumped out of their vehicle and stood on the road just to show that they were doing their job,” said Patel.

As per the protocol, senior cops were monitoring the security from the CCTV cameras at control-room. They found the three cops emerging from their vehicles only after the CM’s convoy came near their point. The entire stretch of road near Indroda Circle did not have any alert security personnel, said sources.

Indroda Circle is considered a crucial security check point, considering the turning point and the trees surrounding it, said a police officer.

Sources said that an inquiry was ordered to check the conduct of the three cops. The probe found them guilty of negligence. The cops were also summoned on Friday to give reasons for their alleged negligent behaviour but as they failed to give any substantial reasons, they were suspended.
