The Timeless Team and Fans React to Heartbreaking Cancellation

Sorry, Clockblockers. NBC has canceled Timeless... again.

A month after the network announced its fall 2018 lineup, NBC finally gave Timeless fans some closure, revealing they wouldn't be ordering a third season of the time-traveling, historical drama. The news isn't exactly shocking -- NBC had canceled Timeless a year prior only to renew it three days later after an impassioned fan outcry -- but that doesn't mean it hurts any less. There is a small hope that NBC will bring Timeless back for a two-hour movie to wrap up the story (including that massive finale cliffhanger), but nothing is official at this time.

Co-creator Shawn Ryan shared his condolences on Twitter, writing: "This is a sad day for the writers, actors, crew and especially the viewers of Timeless. We are all extremely proud of what we made and know that it was more than just a show for so many of our fans. It became a passion and a cause for many of them."

"We're proud of the impact @NBCTImeless had on so many people - the students who embraced history as a result of our show, the people who were inspired by our stories of inclusion and acceptance. We saw your tweets and were inspired by you," he continued. "If NBC is sincere in wanting a 2 hour movie to give much needed closure to our amazing @NBCTimeless fans, we are ready to make it. We don't want the journeys of Lucy, Wyatt, Rufus and the others to end yet. #ClockBlockers"

Eric Kripke, Ryan's co-creator, echoed those sentiments on Twitter.

Gutted by this, guys, I know you are too. Behind the scenes, Sony has been trying hard to set it up elsewhere, but no luck so far. I think this 2 hour movie is our best shot. We're ready to make it if @nbc really wants it. Let 'em know how you feel. #clockblockers https://t.co/arNi9iS9GF

Star Matt Lanter and Abigail Spencer, as well as the official Timeless writers room account also spoke out after the unfortunate news broke to thank fans for all their support over the years.

While many fans hearts were breaking due to Timeless' cancellation, others were just pissed that NBC kept them waiting for so long.

Meanwhile, others began campaigning for Netflix or another network to save Timeless, much like how the streaming service recently picked up Lucifer after Fox gave it the ax.
