The Gunjur project was to be completed in 2015

Over 50 people who had been allotted flats in the Bangalore Development Authority’s Gunjur Group Housing Project held a protest on Friday over the delay in handing over possession. They demanded that the development authority speed up the work.

The Gunjur project — which has a total of 168 2BHK flats, 84 3BHK flats and 616 1BHK flats — has faced many hurdles.

B.T. Venkatesh, a flat allottee who organised the protest, said, “We paid the money to BDA in 2012-13 and the first deadline was 2015, which they missed. The next deadline was November 2017 which was also missed. There is no water, sanitation or electricity supply to the project, and the work is yet to be completed”.

Goudaiah, in-charge, housing, BDA, said that this is the only project to face these problems. “The initial contractor did not even start the project, following which we scrapped his tender and reissued a new one. The new contractor came in only after 2015, which was actually the first deadline for the project. There has been some delay, I agree. We will work towards handing over possession of these flats by July 15,” he said.
