Penn State Extension offices in Beaver and Butler counties are seeking volunteers for a new Master Health and Wellness Volunteer Training Program.

The course requires volunteers to complete 40 hours of online training and a day of on-site training at the Penn State Extension in Mercer. Participants must have computer access and be able to travel to Mercer on Sept. 19.

Upon completion, volunteers will give back 40 hours of service to the extension’s nutrition and wellness programs, which are focused on helping others plan, buy, store and prepare foods within their budgets. They’ll assist at these programs, make presentations and answer consumer questions using researched information. This program is based on the model for the extension’s successful Master Gardener training program.

Ideally, applicants should have some knowledge and interest in food, nutrition and food safety, and, most important, be strongly interested in learning and helping others improve their lives, Penn State educator Mary Alice Gettings said.

The cost for training and certification is $125. Partial scholarships are available for those with financial need.

To receive an application, contact Gettings by email at magettings@psu.edu or call 724-774-3003, ext. 9.

The application deadline is June 30. Interviews will be scheduled in July.
