The South Central Railway has introduced the concept of ‘Train Captain’ as the overall leader and in charge of all onboard railway personnel and outsourced staff of mail and express trains on Thursday.
The following trains will be manned by a Train Captain: Hyderabad - New Delhi Telangana Express, Chittoor - Kacheguda Venkatadri Express, H.S.Nanded - Amritsar Sachkhand Express, Vijayawada - Visakhapatnam Ratnachal Express, Guntur - Vikarabad Palnadu Express, Tirupati - Secunderabad Express and Tirupati - Nizamabad Rayalseema Express.
Long distance mail and express trains were provided with a large team of railway personnel and outsourced staff. In order to bring better coordination among them, the Railway Board had introduced the concept of the Train Captain.
In trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto, the Train Superintendent (TS), who is available on end-to-end basis, would be nominated as the Train Captain.
All the onboard railway personnel and supervisors of all outsourced agencies would report to the Train Captain for effective control and supervision.
Grievance redressal
The name and contact number of the Train Captain would be displayed on the reservation chart before the departure of a train. Other TTEs on the train as well as the supervisors of OBH staff, pantry manager, bedroll contractor and AC coach attendants would SMS their mobile numbers to the Train Captain.
During journey, the Train Captain would stay in touch with the other service personnel and ensure that they discharged their duty promptly and efficiently. In case of any complaints from passengers, the Train Captain would take the necessary remedial action.
