THANE: Following a string of technical glitches in the online RTE system which resulted in a number of selected applicants in the district not receiving their confirmation message via SMS, the education department of the Thane Zilla Parishad has extended the final date of claiming admission from June 21 to June 25.
In the second lottery round of the RTE scheme, which allows children from the lower economic groups to secure free admission in their choice of school in their locality, which took place on June 11 as many as 2,637 students were selected in different schools in the district.

However, because of some technical issue most applicants’ parents did not get the SMS about their selection, which resulted in them not knowing that their child had actually been selected and they thus failed to visit the school and secure the admission.

On realising this technical glitch, the ZP education department not only resend all the selection SMS to all the parents of the applicants, but also extended the deadline for confirming these admissions by four days.

Speaking about the issue an official at the Thane ZP education officer said, “The moment we realised about this technical glitch, we quickly sent the message to all the parents of the selected students once again. However, by the time this was done the deadline for confirming the admissions was very close. This is why we decided to extend the last day, giving them enough time to secure their admission.”

As of April 9, only 324 selected students had claimed their admission and over 960 students are yet to do so.
