Charing Cross bomb alert: London station evacuated as man on tracks ‘has bomb’

CHARING Cross station in London has been evacuated amid a terror threat with a man on tracks claiming to have a bomb.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "We are currently dealing with an incident at Charing Cross station following reports of a man on the tracks claiming to have a bomb.

"The station has been evacuated as a precaution and no services are currently stopping at the station.”

The closure of the busy commuter hub has caused rush hour chaos in the capital with the overground and London Underground services affected.

Passengers have been urged to check the Transport for London website before setting off on their journey.

Police and fire crews raced to the busy station

Scotland Yard said: “Officers are currently assisting at Charing Cross train station following a report of a man acting suspiciously.

“The station has been evacuated as a precaution and is currently closed.”

Emergency crews from London Fire Brigade are also at the scene.

Witnesses have reported seeing armed police units racing to the scene.

One Twitter user warned: “Man running down the tracks claiming to have a bomb at Charing Cross Station.”

Another said: “Loads of police including armed response at Charing Cross. Underground shut off and asking people to move away.”

A third said: “Something going on at Charing Cross station. Lots of armed police response units going in.”

A suspect has been now been arrested and being questioned by British Transport Police officers but the station remains on lockdown.

The spokesman said: “We are now working to reopen the station as soon as possible.

“No-one has been injured and BTP officers remain on the scene.”
