Local students experience 'mini med school'
Florida State University College of Medicine recently hosted a weeklong summer institute session to help prepare and train future physicians, immersing students in a medical school environment and participating in classes and training both at the College of Medicine and local hospitals, medical practices and more. Derrick Rodney from Atlantic High School, Kelly Drescher from Deltona High School and Jackson Broome from Father Lopez Catholic High School were all selected to participate in the session.

4-mile beach run/walk
The Daytona Chapter of Team Red, White & Blue will host a four mile beach run and walk 6:30 a.m. Sunday, July 1, at the Flagler Avenue Boardwalk, New Smyrna Beach. Proceeds benefit Team RWB Veterans Organization. There will be race medals for finishers, shirts and awards. Cost is $30 per person. To register, visit runsignup.com. Jim Miller's Big Band America
Jim Miller's Big Band America will perform a holiday concert 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S.1, Ormond Beach.
