Directed by Little Theatre veteran, Rex Huffman, and written by David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori, the musical begins with a large ogre named Shrek narrating the story of his seventh birthday, when he is forced to leave his home and strike out on his own. After choosing his own swamp, Shrek’s lonely life is interrupted by all of the fairytale characters of the forest. They have been banished there by Lord Farquaad who is looking for a princess so that he may become king. Princess Fiona is waiting in her tower to be rescued, and the plot becomes hilarious as creatures ranging from a huge dragon to the tiniest of rabbits, work toward that goal. As with most fairytales, it all culminates in a happy ending.
