KOCHI: A youth hailing from Kulathupuzha in Kollam on Thursday was arrested by the City police for job fraud . The arrested Noorudhin, 22, lured his victims after promising them job opportunities in Canada. Police said the accused was working as a customer care executive at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. It was by posing as the Vigilance Officer of national carrier Air India, Noorudhin allegedly carried out the fraud.
"The accused person took money from several persons in Kerala after convincing the aspirants he had worked for the AI at several outposts across the globe. After promising to find them placements in Canada for just ` 65,000 for which he took `10,000 as advance from them," an officer said.
The fraud came to light after those duped by Noorudhin failed to find his name on the AI's official website. "In reality, the name given on the website was of another person bearing the same name. We are yet to ascertain, the number of persons duped by the accused," an officer said.Some of the victims also approached the AI directly when it became clear no such person was working for the airline. By then, the accused went underground. Later, the police seized fake identity cards, seals and documents from Noorudhin's residence. He was finally tracked down with the help of the Cyber Cell. He has since been remanded in custody by a magistrate court.
