CHANDIGARH: A head constable of the UT police and a
cyclist came to blows after a heated argument near Matka Chowk here on Thursday and ended up tearing each other’s clothes.
As the two landed blows on each other in full public view around 9am, when it is rush hour, a large crowd gathered on the spot. While head constable Parveen Kumar was driving back home in his car after working the night shift at the Chandigarh Police headquarters in Sector 9, Nayagaon resident Santosh Kumar was cycling home from an International Yoga Day event at the Sector 17 Plaza.
The fight ended in a compromise between the two men and no FIR was registered.
Santosh claimed that when he was cycling past the roundabout, Parveen, who was behind him, started blowing his car’s horn and abusing him. As the traffic was heavy, Santosh managed to catch hold of the cop and the two started arguing.
Soon after, push came to shove and the two got into a fight. Santosh claimed that the cop was the first to tear his clothes and he bit on his hand and shoulder. The head constable also received minor injuries in the scuffle and his T-shirt was torn in the fight.
Santosh and Parveen both phoned the police for help. A PCR team reached the spot and took the duo to the Sector 3 police station. Both were medically examined at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.
The cop, on the other hand, claimed that the cyclist was riding in the middle of the road recklessly. “I asked him to drive properly. I honked several times, but he did not get aside. Later, he took offence for nothing and held by the collar. That is when the fight started,” he said.
Parveen has been recently transferred from the cyber cell to the police headquarters in Sector 9.
