A 10-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead on Thursday in Bihar’s Khagaria district for picking mangoes from the ground of an orchard while playing, police said on Friday

The incident took place in Shergarh village under Gogri area of Khagaria district with high rate of crime.

Makuni Yadav said his son Satyam Kumar was shot in the head by the orchard’s security guard Ramashish Yadav. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“My son’s only crime was that he picked up a few mangoes at Badho Choudhary’s orchard,” Makuni said.

Hundreds of people gathered after the news spread and protested against the incident demanding action against the accused.

Police have registered a case against two persons but no arrests have been made yet. Some suspects have been detained for questioning, police said, adding additional police forces have been deployed to maintain calm in the area.

“An investigation is underway and raids are being conducted to nab the accused,” Gogri’s sub-divisional police officer PK Jha said.
