BENGALURU: The government’s plan, to curb wrong parking space, has residents divided. While those who live in lanes that have cars parked on roads have welcomed the move, those looking to buy a car are worried.
“Several houses here have space to park only one car and residents park the remaining on the road outside their houses. People even pick up fights if you leave your vehicle in their ‘designated parking spot’ for a little while. Our wide lanes have been made narrow with parked cars,” said Lalitha Rao, a resident of HRBR Layout.
But for others like Kaustubh Shetty, who lives in a rented accommodation in Indiranagar, the worry is about not having any mode of private transport. He said, “So many live in rented accommodation here and will not be able to provide proof of parking space. Does it mean these people cannot buy cars?”
The general lack of dependable public transport is also a concern. “In my area, bus connectivity is not good and I have to change three buses to reach home. How can I be denied the comfort and safety of a car? Will the Government guarantee my safety in a public bus,” asked Vijetha K, a resident of Kengeri.
