Karnataka man hangs himself at lodge, leaves cheque for last rites
MYSURU: A 69-year-old retired government employee who was reportedly suffering from several ailments hanged himself at a lodge in Srirangapatna on Wednesday. He left a cheque for Rs 40,000 for his last rites and instructions on how they should be performed and by who.
Police said the senior citizen, identified as Ramakrishna, was a resident of Ramakrishnanagar in Mysuru. He checked into a lodge in Srirangapatna on Tuesday and allegedly committed suicide a day later. “Family members said he was depressed over the past few days due to poor health. He has taken this extreme step for that reason,” a police officer said. Ramakrishna, who used to work with the energy department, reportedly feared that he would become a burden on his family. “His children are well settled and he had a good relationship with them. His ailments pushed him towards depression,” the officer said.

While it is not clear what diseases Ramakrishna was suffering from, police said he had mentioned “multiple organ failure” in his suicide note.

“His last wish was that the final rites and other rituals be performed at Srirangapatna,” a police officer said. “He wanted well-known priest Bhanuprakash Sharma to perform the last rites. The cheque is to cover these expenses.”
