GURUGRAM: Notorious gangster Rajiv alias Bobby, resident of Nai Basti in Bahadurgarh, who is wanted for many heinous crimes, was nabbed by the Haryana STF along with his accomplice Sumit, resident of Rasoolpur village in Delhi’s Kanjhawla area, sometime late in the night on Tuesday from Rajendra Park area. Bobby was carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head.
The STF has recovered two foreign-made 9mm pistols — one made in Italy with Bobby, another made in the US with Sumit — along with six live cartridges. Bobby had been released from jail on parole eight years ago, but jumped parole and had disappeared. His accomplice Sumit was sentenced for a life term in a case of kidnap, but he too was out, on bail.

The STF team set off to nab the dreaded criminal last late night, after it was tipped off about their location. They identified their target, along with his aide, while the two were trying to steal a car to be used in another crime, in the corner of a road in Rajendra Park. The cops gave them the chase when they tried to escape, and arrested the two.

“Rajiv alias Bobby is a dreaded criminal, who was at large for the past eight years. He is involved in murder, attempt to murder, robbery and kidnap in ransom cases. His accomplice Sumit is also a notorious criminal who abducting a girl for ransom and then raped and murdered her after he didn’t get the money he had demanded. It’s a big catch for our team, as the accused were planning to rob a vehicle to commit another crime. We are questioning them and will produce them in a city court on Thursday,” said B Satheesh Balan, DIG (STF), Haryana.

Bobby entered the world of crime when he was a student of Class XII in 1994. He was given life term for the abduction of a Rohtak resident and for seeking ransom of Rs 1 crore in 2002. He was given parole in 2010, but did not return and was declared a proclaimed offender. In the intervening years, cops claimed he was active in criminal activities.

Sumit was given a life term for the rape and murder of girl after he had kidnapped her for ransom. The duo were seeking a chance for a big crime, cops speculated. “We have identified six more accomplices of the duo — Anuj, Diwan, Yogesh, Satbir, Abhishek and Pradeep — and are conducting raids to nab them,” said an investigating officer of the STF.
