Vadodara: City-based builder Ramesh Patel, who is facing charges of abetting the suicide of civil contractor Alpesh Thakkar, sought anticipatory bail from a sessions court here.
Patel, one of 12 persons accused, has been on the run since the FIR was registered at Vadodara taluka police station on May 11. Thakkar’s wife had alleged in her complaint that her husband was owed Rs 4.5 crore by Patel.

Patel filed his bail application, pleading innocence in the case. In his application, Patel told the court he was framed in the case. His plea will be heard on Friday. Police sources said they will oppose his bail application.

Patel is the seventh builder to apply for anticipatory bail. Earlier, six other builders booked in the case had sought bail. While one of them withdrew his plea, others were granted bail by the court. Besides the developers, Dilipsinh Chauhan, who had lent money to Thakkar, also applied for bail, but was turned down by the court.

Thakkar committed suicide in April, allegedly because he was not paid by 11 builders. Thakkar’s wife had also attempted suicide along with him, but she was saved.
