It is always safety over convenience, says Nalgonda SP

The Nalgonda Superintendent of Police A.V. Ranganath in a road safety meeting held with various officials on Thursday observed that bad road engineering on the National Highway-65 was the major cause of incidences in road accidents.

The roughly 90-minute Road Safety Committee meeting, with the attendance of District Collector Gaurav Uppal, National Highways Authority of India project director M. Sailaja and other road experts at the Collectorate was more than usual.

Mr. A.V. Ranganath pointed out that placement of crossings, U-turns, lighting on the highway, including other maintenance was not satisfactory, adding to the danger.

The district police chief who also displayed a PowerPoint presentation to the members showed that the nine black spots on the stretch continued to be dangerous despite warning, and needed maintenance.

“U-turns near villages should be avoided and kept away, and foot overbridges be constructed wherever unavailable now. It is always safety over convenience,” he said.

Ms. Sailaja also pointed that danger on the highway was from two-wheelers and passenger carriers that ply on the mainways, which should be limited to service roads.

The Narketpally junction, near Kamineni hospitals has got a sanction of ₹40 crore, for construction of an under bridge, she informed.

While traffic and police officials desired better coordination, Mr. Uppal strictly instructed officials of the Panchayati Raj to submit reports on the condition of bad roads division-wise.

The resolution of the meeting said immediate corrective action will be taken up to bring down accidents.
