HYDERABAD: A special court trying cases against public representatives today acquitted a Telangana BJP MLA and two others in connection with a 2010 case against them for staging a dharna in front of the party office.

The BJP floor leader in the Telangana Assembly G Kishan Reddy and others had staged a one-day dharna in protest against the "indifferent" attitude of the undivided Andhra Pradesh government of the Congress on reimbursement of scholarships to Scheduled Castes, backward classes and minorities, after which a case was filed by the police.

Kishan and two others were booked under Indian Penal Code sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 341 (wrongful restraint) for holding the dharna, the MLA's counsel Prabhakar Reddy said.

The court acquitted Kishan, who represents Amberpet Assembly constituency here, and two others, of the charges, he said.

According to the Reddy, this is the first judgement by a special fast track court (in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) set up on the direction of the Supreme Court for speedy trial of cases against lawmakers.
