2019 BMW 8-Series Coupe Launch Film Poses Existential Question

The 8-Series Coupe is one of the hottest premieres of the year. Even though it replaces the 6-Series Coupe in BMW’s range, it is in fact more upscale, having rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe in its sights.

Almost everything is entirely new, including the sleek and dynamic design, sporty yet comfortable interior and novel underpinnings.

BMW says the car offers “supreme agility, precision and poise expected of a top-class luxury sports coupe“. They’re also making a rather bold statement by claiming that it fills a niche between the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Porsche 911.

It also wears the M signature on certain parts, such as the suspension that features electronically controlled dampers, which are a standard feature. And the M850i model, with its 530PS (523hp / 390kW) and 750Nm (553lb-ft) of torque should keep enthusiasts satisfied until the full-blown M8 Coupe arrives to take on the Mercedes-AMG S63.

There’s still some time before that is unleashed, though. So, right now, BMW is busy promoting the recently launched 8-Series, starting with the official launch film.

Shared by the German car company on YouTube, it demonstrates the car’s state-of-the-art technology and styling. There’s also a shot of the 8-Series power drifting, but ultimately BMW poses a question: if you don’t leave just any life (because, you know, who would admit to that?), why should you drive any car and not “The 8”?
