Deepak Tijori on new directorial: My film Tipsy is nowhere close to Veere Di Wedding

Deepak Tijori might have been away from the public eye for quite some time, but he’s all set to keep up with his diverse body of work. Looking forward to the release of his film, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3, next month, he says he doesn’t bother about the length of the role offered, but the strength of the character.

“If a part is strong enough to attract me, length becomes secondary. In Ghulam (1998), I only had three scenes and when I heard the narration, Vikram Bhatt [director] asked me if I had a problem with that. He was actually surprised that I said yes for the film. And even today, I look at the quality, so anybody who comes to me with any offer, should know this,” says Deepak.

The actor adds that the reason he has become “a greedy man” for good work is because he feels he hasn’t got enough opportunities to perform. “Somewhere, I’m not completely satisfied and I know I have so much more to offer and so much more to explore in me as an actor, yet. There is definitely more to me than what everybody has seen so far. So, maybe now is the time when I am ready to explore different avenues and pull off different roles.”

Besides acting, Deepak also donned the director’s hat for films such as Oops, Fareb, Tom, Dick and harry, Fox, however, he feels he is not “completely satisfied” in that area too. “As a director, I’m still striving and trying to create a mark for myself. So, that struggle is on. Every year and every film that I make, I keep on fighting with my own self and trying to make things better.”

Talking about his next directorial venture, Tipsy, Deepak reveals that it’s going to be a chick flick and a female version of Hollywood film Hangover. “It’s not a copy or remake of Hangover but just the concept where a girl goes on a holiday for her hen’s night with her four girl friends. Script is nearly done but I’m yet to do the casting. You see, to get five girls together is a task (laughs) and when you’re making a smaller film, it’s obviously tough to get people on board.”

On whether it is somewhat similar to what we saw in Veere Di Wedding, Deepak adds, “No, it’s nowhere close to VDW. We are making the film on a different scale and not looking at [big] names like VDW. But yes, our film will have a lot of fun, adventure and thrill. We’ll have to have lots of workshops and getting people in that category together is difficult. So, we’re looking at names that are relatively known and definitely brilliant actors.”
