Supreme Court rules states can require internet sales tax collection

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that states have the right to collect sales taxes on internet companies that don't have an in-state physical presence. The ruling was 5-4. The Retail Industry Leaders Association said the court's decision "would give every retailer the opportunity to compete on a level playing field without government's thumb on the scale." Shares of Amazon dropped about 1% after the ruling was announced. The case is South Dakota vs. Wayfair
