Unable to pay her college fee, a distraught young woman allegedly consumed poison, while her mother, who had joined her in the suicide pact, is fighting for her life.
The police said M. Dharanika, 18, a second-year B.Com student of Kadichambadi Mela Theru, near here, was distressed after her father Murugesan reportedly told her to discontinue her studies as he was unable to find money to meet her educational expenditure.
Under mental stress, she and her mother Vijaya consumed rodent poison on Tuesday. While Dharanika died, Vijaya is battling for life at Kumbakonam Government Hospital.
