This is the suggestion of Kempegowda Development Authority

Participants of a meeting convened to discuss the Kempegowda birth anniversary celebrations suggested putting a portrait of the founder of Bengaluru in all government schools and offices.

The preparatory meeting was chaired by Water Resources and Medical Education Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is also Vice-Chairman of Kempegowda Development Authority. The celebrations will be organised on June 27.

Speaking after the meeting, the Minister said the Authority has sought additional funds from the government for the celebrations. “As of now, the government has sanctioned ₹69 lakh for Kempegowda Jayanthi, which will be celebrated with pomp and gaiety across the State. In Bengaluru, we will organise the main programme in Palace Grounds, and not in Banquet Hall like last year. This is due to lack of adequate space in Banquet Hall,” he said.

Setting aside demands by various associations during the meeting to name Namma Metro and one of the three Bengaluru universities after Kempegowda, Mr. Shivakumar said this could not be done as a lot of procedure is to be followed.

On June 27, various associations will march from the four Kempegowda towers and congregate in Freedom Park from where they will go in a procession to Palace Grounds for the celebrations, he added.
