NEW DELHI: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir
Omar Abdullah on Thursday continued his war of words with BJP leaders accusing them of trying to "make up the numbers" for government formation by "horsetrading".
In the latest tussle, Abdullah responded to BJP's general secretary
Ram Madhav counter allegations where he had accused the former's party of "engaging in horsetrading in the past".
"I have no doubt about my MLAs but we all know what happened in the PDP after Mufti Sahab died and the sort of pressure that was applied to
Mehbooba Mufti," Abdullah tweeted.
Earlier today, Madhav had denied allegations of "horsetrading" in his party and, instead, blamed the National Conference for indulging in the same.
"Why is he (Omar Abdullah) so scared? I'm sure his party men are loyal to him. There is no question of horse-trading from our side. We've seen what kind of horse-trading happened in J&K under his party, nobody should forget the history," Madhav was quoted saying by ANI.
The war of words between NC leader and BJP started yesterday following the breakup of the PDP-BJP alliance. Early on Tuesday, BJP, in a surprise move, announced that it will no longer be a part of the PDP-BJP coalition in
Jammu and Kashmir leading to the fall of the government.
With no party ready to get into a fresh alliance, speculations of "horsetrading" started doing the rounds.
A statement by former deputy chief minister of J&K,
Kavinder Gupta where he had stated that his party is in the process of "working on something" and "people will get to know about it" further exacerbated the speculations.
"I don't think a new government will be formed anytime soon. Uncertainties are there, but we are working on something & people will get to know about it," Gupta had said.
National Conference leader, whose party holds 15 of the 89 seats in the assembly, immediately hit back at Gupta. "The only “something” would be to break other parties & make up the numbers to form a BJP government," Abdullah wrote in a tweet.
Abdullah demanded an immediate dissolution of the assembly. "The J&K state assembly should be dissolved immediately and fresh elections should take place as soon as appropriate. The former DCM has admitted that BJP can’t be trusted not to horsetrade for government formation," he said in response to Gupta's comment.
The NC leader also alleged that BJP cannot be trusted “not to horsetrade for government formation".
President’s rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday following BJP’s decision to withdraw its support from the three-year-old political alliance.
