Witnesses told police both suffered from numerous health issues
DAYTONA BEACH — A couple were discovered dead in their Essex Road home in what police are calling an “apparent murder-suicide,” authorities said.
Police were called to the house around 10:13 p.m. Tuesday for a well-being check. Inside they found Melissa Vayda-Henry, 46, and Thomas Pulcrano, 55, lying on a bed both with gunshot wounds to the head, said police spokeswoman Lyda Longa. Pulcrano was found holding a semi-automatic handgun.
Witnesses described in the report as landlords and "good friends" of the couple, told police Vayda-Henry’s “health has been declining significantly.” They said Vayda-Henry "struggled with depression and anxiety for as long as (they'd) known her and that although Vayda-Henry never revealed her diagnosis, they suspected she had cancer as well, the report stated.
The couple's friends also told police that Pulcrano “had been struggling with extensive health problems for many years,” including issues with uncontrolled diabetes, the report stated, and that he’d “had multiple serious surgeries in recent years for a variety of issues, including colon and pancreatic problems."
