The arrest was effected through a joint operation conducted by the Uttar Pradesh ATS and the Maharashtra police.

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has nabbed Ramesh Shah, alleged to be the mastermind in connection with the Gorakhpur terror funding case from Pune.

In a release issued by the Uttar Pradesh ATS, Shah was picked up by the authorities from Pune on June 19.

The arrest was made through a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh ATS and the Maharashtra police.

Nine persons, who were apparently acting at the behest of a Pakistani handler, were arrested on March 24-25 from Gorakhpur, Pratapgarh and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and Rewa in Madhya Pradesh for their alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Shah is suspected to be the kingpin of this gang.

The 28-year-old Shah hails from Bihar's Gopalganj district and runs a shopping mart in Gorakhpur. He had been absconding since the round-up of his gang.

The ATS had launched a massive manhunt for the accused since the gang was busted in March.

Police sources said he would being taken to Lucknow Thursday night on transit remand. A case has been registered against him under relevant Sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
