Trailhawk loses signature red tow hook!

In the last couple of weeks, Jeep confirmed that it will launch a sub-4m SUV in addition to a three-row SUV for the Indian market by 2022. It also revealed the updated Renegade, which is likely to make it to India sooner than the other two models. Now, the company has taken the wraps off two of its variants, the Limited and the Trailhawk.

The Renegade Limited and the Trailhawk get revised front fascias that resemble the new Wrangler. The limited variant gets bumpers with more body-coloured panels, new turn indicators, fog lights and a lower air intake. Sadly, the Trailhawk variant has lost its signature red tow hook. Both versions now feature all-LED headlamps with LED DRLs. Move over to the rear, and it’s hard to make out any difference. However, the easiest way to tell the Limited apart from the Trailhawk are the 19-inch alloy wheels the former comes shod with.

There are a range of engines for the European market, including a 1.0-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol motor that produces 120PS, and a 1.3-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes either 150PS or 180PS. Diesel options include the 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbo engines from before. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed dual-clutch auto and a 9-speed automatic. Currently the smallest SUV in Jeep’s lineup, the Renegade will continue to be offered with both front- and four-wheel drive. There are two four-wheel drive systems on offer, of which one is a more sophisticated system that is available only with the Trailhawk.

The India-spec Renegade, however, is expected to be powered by the same set of engines seen on the Compass: a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor. It will be assembled at FCA India’s facility in Ranjangaon with high levels of localisation, like the Compass.
