CHENNAI: Actor
Kamal Haasan, who made his political foray and launched the
Makkal Needhi Maiam (
MNM) early this year, on Wednesday expressed hope that his party will get the
Election Commission recognition very soon.
Kamal met Election Commission officials in New Delhi and discussed the way forward for formally registering his party with the EC.
"EC officials have sought a few clarifications and we hope to submit the same by this evening. They have assured to accord recognition to the party very soon," Kamal told reporters after the meeting with the EC in Delhi. "However, we are yet to decide on the party symbol," he added.
"Merely talking about environment cannot be termed as a criminal act. That cannot be accepted," Kamal said, responding to a question on police arresting people protesting or talking against the proposed eight-lane green corridor national highway project connecting Salem and Chennai.
