BENGALURU:Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has warned the state government of launching a protest if it appoints former Vice Chancellor of Karnataka State Open University K S Rangappa as chairman of the State Higher Education Council. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar and party leader Go Madhusudan said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has decided to appoint the former VC, who is facing several allegations, as the State Higher Education Council chairman.

After several allegations of irregularities, the Karnataka Open University has been derecognised since 2013-14 and without any educational activities, the university is in a state of coma now, they said.  “Kumaraswamy had criticised Siddaramaiah for appointing former IPS officer Kempaiah as advisor to Home Department, but now as CM he is doing the same. We have appealed to Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar to order a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the university,” they added.
