H D Kumaraswamy will flag off the much-awaited six-coach metro train on Friday.
BMRCL officials on Wednesday said Kumaraswamy will flag off the first six coach metro train from Baiyappanahalli station at 5:30pm in the presence of deputy chief minister G Parameshwar and Union minister of housing and urban affairs
Hardeep Singh Puri.
The chief minister along with dignitaries is also expected in travel in the six-coach train till Kempegowda Majestic metro station.
Metro’s east-west corridor (Purple Line between Byappanahalli and Mysuru Road) will get the first six-coach train, and its first compartment will be reserved for women passengers.
Six-coach-train has been the long pending demand of commuters as metro trains are running packed in the existing three-coach trains especially during peak hours. The doubling of coaches is also expected to increase the passenger traffic.
BMRCL hopes to have its entire fleet converted to six-coach trains by June 2019.
Last Sunday also marked one year completion of Namma Metro’s Phase 1 and the service has clocked over 12 crore ridership in a year.
