BBC weather forecast: Heatwave halted as rain thrashes Britain - when and where MAPPED
UK WEATHER will drastically change today as heavy downpours batter parts of the country and temperatures plummet, delaying the mid-week heatwave, however, forecasters predict conditions are to improve by the weekend.
Britons will wake up to a murky and misty morning with those in the south of England seeing the muggiest conditions.
Meteorologist Carol Kirkwood reported: “This morning it’s a damp start to the day, there’s lots of low cloud and there’s murky conditions.
“We’ve got a lot of this across southern parts of England and in the north of Scotland we’ve had some heavy rain overnight and that’s going to be sinking south.”
Eastern parts of England had its highest temperatures yesterday with highs of 26 degrees Celsius, however, conditions were cooler in the north west.
While it felt humid across England and Wales on Tuesday, due to the air from the tropics in Scotland and Northern Ireland it was fresher.

On Wednesday it will be wet for Northern Ireland and Scotland because of a weather front, although the rain should ease in Northern Ireland as the day progresses.
Also, there will be some light showers in Cumbria, Lancashire and north west Wales, meanwhile a few spots of drizzle to the south west.
The weather front will gradually move southwards this afternoon and over Wales and the Midlands where there may be one or two showers.
But the south east is where the warm and muggy air remains, meaning once again temperatures well above 22 degrees Celsius with London reaching 26 degrees.
Elsewhere, bright with some sunshine, but the temperature will have dropped, with most areas seeing figures in the low teens.

Tonight the showers in Scotland will begin to ease, otherwise, a mostly clear night but still some cloud lingering.
It will be mainly sunny on Thursday, despite temperatures dropping across the country and winds nationwide.
In south east England temperatures will fail to surpass 20 degrees, which is in contrast to the expected mid to high 20s for this time of year.
There will also be some partial build up of cloud during the day, so it will feel fresher and less humid than previous days.
Forecasters are predicting temperatures to rise on Friday and through to the weekend and it will also be largely dry.

In London it could reach 26 degrees Celsius, meanwhile, in Cardiff it will peak at 22 degrees and in Edinburgh it is expected to be as high as 21 degrees.
With temperatures set to soar this weekend the odds of this month going down in history as the hottest ever June have been slashed again to just 5/4.
It's now only a 7/4 chance that summer 2018 takes home the equivalent scorching weather record of 30 Celsius degrees.
Ladbrokes spokeswoman Jessica Bridge said: "The sunshine looks set to last, not just in June, but all the way through to summer.
“This has left us with no option but to slash the odds accordingly of a whole host of weather records being broken this year."
