CHENNAI: The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has ranked Chennai 37th out of a list of 98 Smart cities.  Coimbatore, Vellore and Salem have beaten Chennai by securing 14th, 32nd and 35th ranks respectively.

Chennai scored a meagre 31.46 points in comparison to Nagpur which scored 259.96 to bag the top spot.
The Greater Chennai Corporation which is implementing a major chunk of Smart City Mission projects has completed just two projects in the last few years - Namma Chennai App and 28 smart classes.
