Anthrax outbreak in Simdega: 2 test positive

RANCHI: Two persons were tested positive of anthrax in a village in Simdega district earlier this week after allegedly consuming the meat of an infected livestock.

Bipin Bilung (42) and Vijay Bilung (35), residents of Kadamtoli Khanja-Loya village under Pakadtand panchayat, were admitted to the Simdega district hospital with anthrax like symptoms on the morning of June 7, senior officers in the state ministry of health, medical education and family welfare in Ranchi told the TOI on Tuesday.

"The sputum and skin swore swabs of the suspected patients were sent to the laboratory in the district hospital for tests. The test confirmed anthrax infection," Dr Sumant Mishra, director of state health services said.
