HYDERABAD: A four-metre wide sinkhole opened up on the middle of a road at Bapuji Nagar in Bowenpally on Tuesday.
Underneath, one could see the sewage water flowing a few feet below, indicating damage to a sewage line under the road resulting in the road cave-in. Passersby immediately alerted the traffic police who immediately set up a temporary barricade around the hole.
The traffic police diverted vehicles and intimated Secunderabad Cantonment Board engineering department.
According to Umashankar, assistant engineer of Ward 1 in SCB’s Engineering department, there is a damaged sewage pipeline below the surface of the road and the continuous flow of water resulted in the caving in of the road, resulting in the sinkhole.
