Surat: A group of parents sat on dharna at the district education office (DEO) on Wednesday after they received school leaving certificate of their children through post. The parents also submitted a written application to the DEO,
collector office, fees regulation committee (FRC) and National Human Right Commission (NHRC). The parents alleged that the school targeted specifically those parents who have taken the lead during the movement for strict implementation of Fees Regulation Act to bring down the high fees.
Parents of S D Jain School sat on dharna at the DEO at Jilla Seva Sadan in Athwalines. They sat on dharna and after a discussion with district education officer U N Rathod, they discontinued it. Earlier, parents of L P Savani School also received the school leaving certificates of their children through post.
“The school is targeting specifically those parents who took centre stage during the agitation against high fees. My son was issued school leaving certificate despite I paying the fees,” a parent Jitu Surana said.
“We have gathered at the DEO and going to submit letter to the collector, FRC and NHRC to take strict action against the school for taking unlawful action of cancelling admission of students. They cannot remove students like this,” another parent said.
“I met the parents and they came to make representation since the school issued leaving certificate and delivered it through post at their home. The DEO will seek details from the school and ask reason behind cancelling the admission of students,” Rathod said.
“If the school fails to give satisfactory reply, the education department will submit a report to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and further action against the school will be taken,” Rathod said.
Meanwhile, the school also kept additional security at the entry gate of the school considering possibility of protest by parents. Recently, a group of parents damaged the school gate during a protest.
