Bail plea of Madurai Kamaraj University faculty dismissed

A bail petition filed at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court by Karuppasamy, arrested in connection with the Nirmala Devi case, has been dismissed as withdrawn.

MADURAI: A bail petition filed at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court by Karuppasamy, a faculty member of Madurai Kamaraj University, arrested in connection with the Nirmala Devi case, has been dismissed as withdrawn.

Nirmala Devi, an assistant professor in Aruppukottai Devanga Arts and Science College, was arrested on April 16 after an audio clip of her telephone conversation with four girl students persuading them to extend sexual favours went viral. Karuppasamy, who was a faculty at MKU was arrested by CB-CID in connection with the case.

While the petitioner’s counsel denied these allegations, Additional Advocate General Chellapandian submitted evidence that have been collected so far.
