Dow extends losing streak to seven sessions

U.S. stocks closed mostly higher on Wednesday, as a rally in technology shares lifted the Nasdaq to its latest in a series of records, though the Dow extended a recent losing streak to a seventh straight session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2% to 24,658. The blue-chip average is mired in its longest streak of daily declines since March 2017; it has been pressured by uncertainty surrounding trade policy, an issue that is seen as having a larger impact on its multinational components. The S&P 500 rose 0.2% to 2,767. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.7% to 7,782, ending at a record. The Russell 2000 index of small-capitalization stocks also ended at a record, advancing 0.9% on the day. Among the biggest boosts to the Nasdaq on Wednesday were Microsoft Corp. which rose 1%, and Amazon.com Inc. up 0.9%.
