Hundreds of people have been stabbed in London since the start of this year, amid a shocking rise in violent crime.

According to Met Police statistics, there were a total of 1,296 knife attacks in London between January 1 and the end of April.

As of this week, at least 46 of those stabbings in the city have been fatal.

In March, the murder rate in the capital was higher than New York for the first time in modern history.

Earlier this week, Home Secretary Sajid Javid promised a crackdown on violent crime by placing greater restrictions on knife sales.

So-called ‘Zombie Knives’ will be outlawed completely, while the knife ban in schools will be extended to colleges and universities.

Mr Javid said: “Used wrongly, all knives are dangerous.

“I’ll restrict all online knife sales so they must be delivered to a non-residential address.”
