Stray dogs bite 15 people in Chendamangalam panchayat

Fifteen people, including nine women, one of whom was a nonagenarian, were bitten by dogs in various regions of Chendamangalam panchayat near Paravur on Tuesday.

KOCHI: Fifteen people, including nine women, one of whom was a nonagenarian, were bitten by dogs in various regions of Chendamangalam panchayat near Paravur on Tuesday. They were taken to the General Hospital; three people who were severely injured were admitted to the hospital, while one was taken to the Kottayam Medical College.

Rajamma, 82, from Kannikkal in Kuttukad; Rajamani, 69, from Chatupperil; Mary, 60, from Poyyathuruth; Venugopal, 85, of Raghava Nivas; Ashokan, 61, from Edakkunnam; Thangam, 72; Murali, 42; Thankachan, 53; Seethadevi, 64; Sunilkumar, 31; Anitha, 22; Pushpa, 60; Lalji, 42; Sumathi, 64; and Kochamminiyamma, 93, were the ones bitten. Rajamma, who had injuries on both arms and a bite on her face, was transferred to Kottayam Medical College for surgery.

"We have given the necessary treatment before discharging more of them. The one case with serious injuries was referred to another hospital for surgery," said Dr Anita, superintendent, General Hospital.
