Economic Offences Court summons Shivakumar in yet another I-T case

BENGALURU: The Special Court for Economic Offences has issued summons to Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar. This was after registering a case under the provisions of IT Act and IPC based on a complaint filed by the I-T Department against Shivakumar for allegedly wilfully evading tax and filling false statement under IT Act.

The court on Monday issued summons to Shivakumar appear before it on August 2. He is the first accused in this case which was related to unaccounted cash found during a raid and filed false statement before IT.

The special court also registered a case against four other accused and issued summons to them. They are Sachin Narayan, Sunil Kumar Sharma, both are residing in Bengaluru, Anjaneya Hanumanthaiah and Rajendra N, residing in New Delhi. They were also asked to appear before the court on August 2.  The accused allegedly changed their version after deposing before the IT officials during the raid.

This is the fourth case registered by the I-T Department in last four months against Shivakumar in connection with the raid conducted in August 2017.

In first three cases, Shivakumar was accused of tearing loose sheets when the raid was conducted on a resort near Bidadi and for filing false statement before IT to evade tax. In these cases, Shivakumar had appeared before the special court a few months ago and secured bail.
