Just three minutes into the match against Japan, Colombia's Carlos Sanchez received a red card for a deliberate handball.

Sanchez's red card is the second-fastest in World Cup history, behind only Jose Alberto Batista for Uruguay vs Scotland in 1986, according to Opta Sports.

Off a rebound, Shinji Kagawa took a shot that appeared headed to be headed for an open goal, but the Sanchez leaped to block the shot and the ball hit the Colombian's outstretched arm.

Sanchez was sent off for the offense, putting Colombia down to 10 men. Kagawa scored the ensuing penalty to put Japan ahead 1-0. 

Despite playing a man down, Colombia looked threatening throughout the match. Juan Quintero would score for Colombia near the end of the first half to tie it up, but Yuya Osako's header in the 73rd minute gave Japan a 2-1 lead that it wouldn't relinquish.
